MEDIA RELEASE

Ottawa, Ontario, April 23, 2017 – Kidney Cancer Canada elected Dr. Anil Kapoor, MD, FRCSC and Dr. Mona Sabharwal, Pharm.D. to its Board of Directors today, bringing significant experience and expertise to the organisation’s leadership.

A leading uro-oncologist, Dr. Kapoor is the current head of the Genito-Unrinary program at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, Program Director of the McMaster University Residency Program and Surgical Director of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Transplant Program.  A prominent Canadian researcher, he is advancing kidney cancer treatment by providing real-world evidence on the effectiveness of new drugs and combination therapies. He is extensively published and is the current Co-Chair of the NCIC Kidney Cancer Disease Group. He also plays a leadership role in The Kidney Cancer Research Network of Canada and recently served as the Chair of Kidney Cancer Canada’s Medical Advisory Board.

Dr. Sabharwal brings over 20 years of experience in health care, as a registered pharmacist  working in both community and hospital practice, as well as program and policy development.  Dr. Sabharwal was the inaugural Executive Director of the pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review (pCODR) where she oversaw the successful launch and operation of a new national initiative which continues to directly impact patients’ access to new cancer medications in Canada. Prior to pCODR, Dr. Sabharwal was involved in drug technology assessment and formulary management for the British Columbia and Ontario governments.  Currently, Dr. Sabharwal is the Vice President of Regulatory and Industry Affairs at Rexall.

“We are thrilled by these two new and accomplished additions to our board,” said Andrew Weller, Board Chair, Kidney Cancer Canada. “Dr. Kapoor brings first-hand knowledge of the importance of providing patients with the most current advances in kidney cancer treatment. Dr. Sabharwal has a deep understanding of the system that ensure patients have access to them.

“Together we will be even stronger in our commitment to making a difference for people living with kidney cancer.”
