BRITISH COLUMBIA ADDS IMPORTANT NEW DRUG COMBINATION TO TREAT KIDNEY CANCER PATIENTS
We applaud and thank the Government of British Columbia as the first province to list the combination of ipilimumab and nivolumab for advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma.
The BC Cancer Agency says The BC Cancer Genitourinary Tumour Group introduced the combination checkpoint inhibition with ipilimumab (CTLA-4 inhibitor) and nivolumab (PD-1 inhibitor) as a first-line treatment option for patients with metastatic or advanced renal cell carcinoma of intermediate or poor risk.
“This is a significant step for kidney cancer patients” says Stephen Andrew, Executive Director of Kidney Cancer Canada - Cancer du rein Canada. “The treatment landscape is rapidly changing and this move by BC should add to greater survival. We expect all other provinces to follow BC’s lead in the coming days.”
6,600 patients receive a kidney cancer diagnosis every year. 1,900 die from the disease.
Kidney Cancer Canada - Cancer du rein Canada is the only Canadian charity focussed on kidney cancer through education, support, advocacy and research.
