Step 4 – Provincial Public Drug Plans

Once the JODR recommendation is made (either to publicly-fund or not publicly-fund), each province decides if they will pay for a particular oncology medication – they are not required to follow the JODR recommendation.

Advocacy to the provincial governments is part of the process that determines if cancer drugs will be accessible to the people that need them.

In Quebec, the process is a little different. The Conseil du Médicament reviews cancer drugs and makes a decision whether to publicly fund the medication.
